South Dakota: The Black Hills

We had one really fun, action-packed day where we drove through the Black Hills and Custer State Park on the Needles Highway. The forest and surrounding scenery was just gorgeous, as you can see. We stopped at a little mom-and-pop grocery store on the side of the road, and they sold us a bag of horse pellet treats (what my grandad always called "cake") for a pack of wild donkeys just up the road. Locals call them the "Begging Burros" because they walk up to your car and expect a handout. And sure enough, we made a new little burro friend that day.
