Stacy, Allison and I all went home to Jennings to help with the wheat harvest this year. Stacy drove the combine, while Allie and I brought meals to the field for Grandpa, Uncle Stann, Aunt Becky, and Daddy. We had a wonderful time! "The boys" and Becky would leave for the field early in the morning, and Allie and I would pack a lunch and drive it out to where they were harvesting. We set up lawn chairs and a blanket, and ate out in the wheat stubble. Grandma would join us for supper in the evening, after she got home from work. Allie got to ride Grandpa's "new" combine a few times, and was pretty enamored with all the bugs on the windshield.
It rained a few times, so on the days that we couldn't go to the field (too muddy), we did lots of other fun stuff...like run through the sprinkler, swim, take long walks, help Grandma with the garden, catch bugs, pester the cats (Tiger and Carl), play with Grandma's "breakable" Barbies, and visit with friends and family. However, Allie's favorite thing to do was to pick berries off the mulberry trees. Grandma showed her where to go to get the best ones, and Allie would eat a few, then drop some in the bucket, then eat a few more. Our hands and faces were stained purple on many occasions. We'd bring berries home, wash them up, and eat them with cream and sugar. They were delicious!
We all had such a good time, and were sad to go home. We love (and miss) our family, and the small town life.
