Jocelyn and I have been trying to become more charitable people lately, which in this economy has been a little difficult to say the least. Economic challenges aside, I know we've been blessed more than many. At the present time, I'm thankful that we have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, some food in the fridge and a few dollars in a coffee can (yes, I stole that last line from a song called "Lucky Man"). In my mind, the best way to offer thanks for all we have is to give to those who have little or nothing. While Christmas shopping, I always encounter the Salvation Army bell ringers taking donations in the red kettles, yet I rarely stop. Honestly, it's not because I don't want to help - it's because I don't carry any cash or silver. Debit cards have made my life so much easier that it's no longer necessary to have money in my billfold (probably safer too). Unfortunately, if there's a downside to the convenience of debit and credit cards, it's that the recipients that require the most assistance get the shaft. As I pass by, I always think "I'll toss in some money next time". Yet, I almost always forget when "the next time" comes.
Now is my chance to rectify that issue, and I hope everyone will consider helping out. I'm hosting an "Online Red Kettle" for the Salvation Army. If you'd like to make a donation to my kettle, click the link below. I've set a conservative goal of $50 for my kettle. I would have set a higher goal, but I don't know how many people even read this blog. I also understand that economic conditions may prevent larger donations, but it's not a contest. Any amount is appreciated. I've donated $20 to get it started. Only $30 more dollars to hit the goal - anything beyond $50 would be great. If we exceed the goal, I can change the target amount, but I want to be realistic in my approach. Put your name on the honor roll. Hope you'll help us out.
Merry Christmas,
Allie's Dad
